Artist’s Biography

Jane Annis was born in the beautiful state of West Virginia. She was educated there and received a bachelor's degree in art education from Marshall University. After moving to New Jersey in 1963, she attended the New York School of Interior Design and attained their professional certificate.
In 1968 she started Jane Annis Interiors and worked from home for 10 years, while her children were small. She then opened a studio in Westfield, New Jersey and continued to work there until 1993. In 1971 she and her husband purchased an antique home on Cape Cod. The interior of this home was featured in a 1972 issue of Home Beautiful. She’s also had several other projects featured in magazine and newspaper articles throughout her professional career as a designer.
During those years, as well as pursuing a career in design, Jane was engaged in other creative fields. She volunteered as a teacher in the visual arts, designed and sold hand painted needlepoint canvases in many fine needlework shops including Bloomingdales and Lord and Taylor. She stenciled floors, painted floor cloths, etc. She always looked for new ways to create something unique and beautiful.
During the last few years of her design career, she returned to watercolor painting, which had always been a favorite medium for her. She studied with many fine artists and in 1993 retired from her career as an interior designer and began her retirement career as an artist.
Jane has been married for over 50 years to Arthur Annis, They have two fine sons, Art and Charles, two delightful daughters in law, Margie and Liz, and four charming grandsons, Aaron, Aden, Henry and Julius.
She and her husband currently reside in Mountainside, New Jersey most of the year and spend their summers on Cape Cod, where Jane is an active member of a co-op gallery and participates in summer shows through the Guild of Harwich Artists. She is also a long time and active member of the Westfield Art Association.
